The National Institute of Oncology was founded in 1952 as the epidemiological, organizational, methodological, therapeutic, research and educational center of Hungarian oncology care. The Institute is the Oncology Department of the Semmelweis University (Budapest). In the summer of 2008, the National Institute of Oncology took over international accreditation organized by the Organization of the European Cancer Institute (OECI), and the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Excellence was awarded. Both the surgical, radiotherapeutic and chemotherapeutic forms of cancer therapy are present in the Institute.
